From body glitter to middle parts, this season has seen a select few beauty trends get sent down the runways of the world
This year’s Spring/Summer 2022 shows featured a myriad of bold, unconventional, and novel beauty looks that added another dimension to an already exciting season. However, there were a few select hair and makeup styles that graced quite a few runways, ensuring their future popularity in the warmer months next year.
This season, several brands, including Blumarine and Marni, showed some love for slick, shimmery skin, reviving the notorious Y2k trend. The former label sent models down the runway with exposed skin coated in a thick, bold layer of body glitter, while the latter had their models appear with intensely glossy skin. At the same time, Del Core covered just a few of their models’ faces in a bold explosion of glitter. Clearly, for Spring/Summer 2022, shimmery, radiant-looking skin will be popular at music festivals and beaches all over the world.
Another popular beauty feature on recent runways has been bleached eyebrows. Both DSquared2 and Richard Quinn bleached their model’s brows, which gave their faces a unique, ultra-smooth appearance. This marks a contrast to the natural, bushy brow trend that has dominated the beauty scene for some time. For those looking to shake up their traditional brow game this spring, take notes from this season’s runway looks.
Bold, graphic eyes have also appeared in numerous shows. Versace sent several models down the runway with neon green and blue eyeliner with massive wings, while Kenneth Ize covered their models’ eyes from brow to lash in metallic shadow. Likewise, Marine Serre had all of their models don chunky black wings and Dior had theirs in an artsy double-wing look. So, for the coming spring and summer months, break out your blackest liner and brightest shadows, because graphic eyes are slated to become one of the biggest beauty trends of the season.
Several designers also showcased slick hair on their runways. Versace slicked the top half of their models’ hair back, for an aerodynamic look, while Dior did the same, but for buns. Giorgio Armani also participated in the trend, having several of their models appear with shiny, wet-looking pixie cuts. Richard Quinn provided perhaps the most extreme example with numerous models’ hair tightly slicked back in a quasi-mohawk. Needless to say, sleek hair will surely permeate the beauty scene in the coming warmer months.
Another hair trend to grace a few runways this season was the middle part. Many brands, most notably Prada, Etro, and Fendi, utilized this style heavily and in several different variations. Although it may seem simple, the middle part evenly framed the faces of several models, with their hair either down or in updos, and allowed their faces to be fully exposed. Considering the prevalence of this style on in seasons’ collections, there is no doubt that it will appear in full force in the spring and summer of 2022.
