The current crop of young and in demand actors have proven to serve real sartorial greatness. With standout looks from Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Lily Rose Depp, and Yara Shahidi, our Instagram saved folder is flooded. But one of the year's most exciting actresses just so happens to be one of the most creative with her beauty looks too. Enter Anya Taylor-Joy.
With a unique take on retro beauty that nods to the best of Hollywood glamour, Anya's beauty looks are unmistakably her. Think Lauren Bacall with a side of Gwen Stefani.
Most recently while promoting Edgar Wright's 'Last Night in Soho', the actress treated us to some of her best yet. Teaming up with long time collaborators make-up artist Georgie Eisdell and hairstylist Gregory Russell, Anya proved she's not afraid of colour with a party ready iridescent violet eyeshadow that changed the way we thought about purple. Pastels for winter? Groundbreaking!
Iridescent Eyeshadow: Get The Look
Surratt Primstatique Style Eyes, £54
MAC Extra Dimension Eye Shadow in 'Ready to Party', £16.50
Beauty Bay Liquid Crystal Eyeshadow, £3
Rituel De Filles Celestial Sphere Eye Soot, £30
Natasha Denona Chromium Liquid Eyeshadow, £26
And if that colour choice didn't convince you of Anya's chameleon like ability to pull off any shade, a reminder of her hair change for the Queens Gambit surely must. Although, granted, it was a wig, Anya's own natural colour is a deep honey blonde, making her switch to a fiery copper red all the more dramatic, but not the first time she has explored swapping shades (her chocolate brown brunette at the 2018 BAFTA awards is a must see).
But if there is any staple that we can rely on ATJ to deliver, it's a bold, matte lip. From a classic versatile red to a deep, blackcurrant purple, her red carpet looks always factor in her signature finishing touch. For the 2021 Emmy Awards Georgie Eisdell used Dior Beauty's Rouge Forever Liquid in shade 'Forever Dior', and the best news is – it's still shoppable, a red carpet approved tip for under £35.
So, In celebration of Anya's versatility and ever changing style, we looked back at some of her most attention garnering beauty moments. Prepare to take notes.
From Brigitte Bardot to Marianne Faithfull, a heavy fringe with voluminous layers is shorthand for bombshell beauty. Although there is a current trend for the shaggier, seventies inspired 'Wolf Cut', both styles work the curtain bangs to full effect.

Continuing the sixties influence, Anya opted for a graphic cats eye flick for her announcement as the face of Viktor and Rolf's Flowerbomb.

With super defined doll lashes, this burgundy lipstick has a 1920s feel that has us ready to party Great Gatsby style.

Long before her character in The Queen's Gambit, Anya experimented with a warm, copper toned red that we can't help but be drawn to for autumn. It comes Gigi Hadid approved too.

Just when we thought we'd seen graphic liner, this look for SNL back in May took things up a notch. The floating liner in the crease is a modern take on Twiggy's iconic eye, just add a little white liner in the waterline to make the finish really pop.

Softening up her new darker colour with rosy pinks and glowy skin, a peach blush and grey smokey eye (rather than a heavier black) gave this awards season look an ethereal feel.

Speaking of ethereal, is there anything better than pairing highlighted skin with pearls? The beauty of this look comes from the simplicity, no statement lip required, just a simple rosy balm.

Anya's most recent hair colour is the coolest icy blonde since Khaleesi, and it might just be our favourite yet,

A true ode to old Hollywood glamour, Anya modernises loose finger waves with a coral based lip colour and a cool take on the French manicure.

But for high voltage glamour, smokey eyes + brushed out waves = a guaranteed showstopper. And with an opulent look reminiscent of Donatella Versace all we can say is, ciao bella!
