Pugh – who is dating actor Zach Braff – appeared to swap her blonde hair for a brunette shade back in the summer, for her upcoming role in film The Wonder.
However, this has marked the first time she has debuted a much shorter look, and it is unclear if it's also for a future movie part.
She isn't the only Hollywood star to opt for a drastically different new hair style of late.
In July, Andie Macdowell turned heads when she showed off her new silver-grey locks on the Cannes red carpet.
