New look for PSG star
Brazil will once again put its faith in Neymar‘s hands against Colombia, or rather in those of ‘BatNey‘, given the Paris Saint-Germain star’s bold new look.
The 29-year-old rocked up to the Selecao‘s training camp featuring a tribute to Batman in his hair and Brazil will hope he can be their hero on Thursday.
Brazil currently have a six-point lead over Argentina in CONEMBOL qualifying for Qatar 2022, but both still have seven games to play. The top four teams in South America qualify automatically for the World Cup, so Brazil‘s passage is all but guaranteed, but there is still plenty of pride at stake.
Starting with Colombia on Thursday, followed by Argentina on Tuesday. The Brazil-Argentina rivalry needs little introduction, but Colombia have become something of an arch-nemesis for Neymar.
At the 2014 World Cup, a heavy challenge by Carlos Zuniga left Neymar with a fractured vertebrae. Then, at Copa America 2015, a scuffle with Pablo Armero saw him hit with a four-game ban.
The feisty on-pitch atmosphere was to continue at the 2016 Olympics in Rio when Brazil knocked out Colombia in the quarter-finals, with Neymar scoring a direct free-kick, in a game marked by all sorts of aggressive challenges.
Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior, meanwhile, is likely to be held in reserve as a back-up option from the bench for Tite‘s team.
The young winger has had an explosive start to the season and it is a luxury for the Brazilians to have such options to call upon.
For Colombia, James Rodriguez‘s return is the big news, but Radamel Falcao heads up the list of absentees.
