Britney Spears used to be the queen of the VMAs, so if there's anyone who could upstage the entire event with personal news, it's her. The icon, whose excruciating struggle with her conservatorship has become extremely public, shared some much-deserved good news with her fans when she took to Instagram to reveal that she's engaged to her longtime boyfriend, Sam Asghari — and she did it with a bold new look.
Spears posted a video to her Instagram grid on Sunday, September 12, writing, "I can’t fucking believe it 💍💍💍💍💍💍❣️!!!!!!" In the clip, she's posing alongside Asghari and showing off her four-carat diamond ring crafted by Forever Diamonds NY — a design already named for her: The Britney Setting.
But as stunning as Spears's engagement ring is, it's impossible not to notice that the singer is newly sporting one of the biggest hair trends of the year: peekaboo color. Under her usual bright blonde is a layer of bold berry red hair.

It appears Spears is really feeling that color right now because her nails are a red-tipped take on the French manicure — and we get a closer look at it in the photo Asghari posted to announce their engagement on his own Instagram grid.

We couldn't be happier for Spears — and we can't wait to see how many red peekaboo dye jobs and red French manicures her look inspires.
